Nicki Minaj and Other Random Thoughts

Tomorrow morning, bright and early, I am traveling to one of my favorite places in the world: the District of Columbia. (Sounds so much fancier than DC.) Whenever I am in the city, I feel like my life could instantly become the next National Treasure or Lost Symbol. Who knows what all of these monuments really are! What conspiracies is our government hiding! Given that this is Sylvia's college home, she could probably tell you more about the city. Apparently there is a lobster food truck that I need to find. I should probably finish packing first. It's not going all too well...

As usual, Memphis has been a series of exciting adventures this week. (Hah, that's funny.) Today, DJ and I tried to go on a run. We are training to do some 5K's in the area and need to be ready for the Steeple Chase on June 18th. However, the Memphis weather forecast was not in our favor and we got quite wet. Later tonight, we are meeting up with some high school friends (shout out to Elise Lasko, Gracie Gelfand, and possibly others) at Republic Coffee, a Memphis hang-out place.

Confession: I am quite a fan of hip coffee shops. Why you may ask? I'll tell you a story to answer that in a round-about way. This year I went through a phase where I listened to Jack Johnson 24/7. Everyone knows that Jack Johnson basically means "hippie" and "hippie" basically means "stoner." So, naturally, I decided that since I was listening to Jack Johnson, I was a hippie, and hence I was a stoner. Apparently no one else thinks this way. It took Darcie Nicholson several weeks to convince me that I was indeed not a stoner. Anyway, the coffee shop fits in here because, even though I will never be a hippie or a stoner, I can still pretend to be cooler than I am by going to cool coffee shops where these cool folks gather.

On a totally unrelated note, I am currently trying to learn the words to Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass." (Shout out to the boys in the polos.) The group I am going to DC with expects me to be up-to-date on my rapping, because I happen to know all the words to her rap in the hit-song "Bottoms Up." There are a lot of TCU people to thank (or blame) for that! I've got about half of the song down now. However, Nicki is so talented I'm not sure I can keep up with her. (If you were wondering, she is number four on my role models list behind Ke$ha, Avril, and Britney. All great people to shape my life after!) I also really need to work on my southern twang so that I can continue to be the NYLC Gossip Girl with Nate.

Finally, random Memphis adventures...

1st attempt to end boredom:
Yesterday I decided to whip out my mad baking skills and give a new almond biscotti recipe a shot. It actually went really well! This surprised my dear mother who can only remember when I put 6 eggs in the apple pie at Thanksgiving. Whoops. If you're in Memphis, stop by and try some!

2nd attempt to end boredom:
I met up with Katelyn Ammons for frozen yogurt at YoLo! We invited our sisters along too. It was great catching up and sharing a few laughs.
We had a sister date! Me, Ellery, Katelyn, and Susan. SMS SMCF-ers!
Third attempt to end boredom:
Two weeks later and I am still cleaning my room. Epic fail right here. I did however find a masterpiece I wrote in 2003. It is a story written from the perspective of a soccer ball. I dedicated it to Susan for obvious reasons.
Will it ever be clean? Probably not.
Does it matter when I have this much talent? Definitely not.

Until next time,
Kathryn
